January 12, 2010 Councilmember Daniel Juarez presented Certificates of Recognition to the winners of the 2009 Holiday Home Decorating Contest. The winners, who were in attendance, included: Richard Benives Velez for best use of lights display; Norb and Linda Huber for best religious display; Alfredo and Amelia Gutierrez for best animation display and Marshall and Felicia Street for best total display.
Officers Steve Colquette, Chris Komathy, Sean Galindoand Andrew Gartonof the Hawthorne Police Officer’s Association, in the spirit of community and forging good relationships with the city, presented a check for $1,000 to Councilmembers Alex Vargas, Angie English and Daniel Juarez to help cover some of the costs for the upcoming service provider fair on January 30th.
January 26, 2010 Patricia Donaldson, President and CEO of the Hawthorne Chamber of Commerce, gave an update on Chamber activities. New projects for the Chamber include the addition of the Hawthorne Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Young Professionals. Mayor Larry Guidi recognized the Chamber for receiving the SPC Best of Business Award for 2009.
February 9, 2010 Mayor Pro Tem Daniel Juarez presented a proclamation to Rick Martin in recognition of him receiving the Silver Beaver Award this past Saturday. This is the highest award an adult volunteer in scouts can receive. Mr. Martin has been involved in scouting for 35 years.
The Hawthorne City Council honored Hawthorne resident Kathleen Wise on the happy occasion of her 101st birthday. Mayor Larry Guidi presented her with a Certificate of Recognition and then recessed the meeting so the audience could join Ms Wise for cake and coffee in the lobby.
March 9, 2010 Mayor Pro Tem Daniel Juarez presented a proclamation formally recognizing and congratulating the South Bay Swim Team and its dedicated coaches and parent volunteers who have fashioned an award winning program that promotes physical fitness, sportsmanship and sound character in hundreds of young athletes over the years.
March 23, 2010 Councilmember Angie English presented Certificates of Recognition to City Emergency Preparedness Coordinator Claudio Taniguchi and to Los Angeles County Fire Department Battalion Chief Derrick Wagoner, Captain Antonio Duran, Firefighter Specialist Carlos Arianos, Specialty Firefighter Yusef Duran and Utility Driver Danny Gutierrez in recognition of their leadership and service to the Spanish CERT 2010 training course benefiting Hawthorne. Over 40 Spanish speaking participants in the course graduated this past Saturday.

Mayor Pro Tem Daniel Juarez and Councilmember Ginny Lambert presented a proclamation to Chapter 53 Vice President Kurt Gillett of the Vietnam Veterans of America in honor of “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day”.
Councilmember Alex Vargas presented Certificates of Recognition to Gary Washington and Demar Bingham on the occasion of their appointment to the Hawthorne Youth Commission and on their designation as Hawthorne Teen Center Youth Council leaders.
April 13, 2010 Councilmember Angie English presented Certificates of Recognition to students from Hawthorne High School’s Robotics Class and Engineering Academy. Students appear on campus an hour before regular classes in order to attend a zero period robotics class that is aimed at exposing them to the fields of engineering and technology. There are currently 200 students enrolled in the Engineering Academy.
Mayor Pro Tem Daniel Juarez presented a Certificate of Recognition to Christian Luna in honor of his achievements as a junior handball championship winner. Christian started out playing handball at the Hawthorne Teen Center.

May 25, 2010 Marvin Jackmon (at left), of Southern California Edison and the South Bay Environmental Savings Center, presented a plaque to Interim City Manager James Mitsch honoring the City of Hawthorne as a Gold Level Energy Saver. Mr. Jackmon cited the city's efforts for reducing energy consumption, saving taxpayer dollars and helping to improve the environment.
