The Planning Commission is a committee of five citizens who have been appointed by the mayor and confirmed by a majority vote of the city council. They serve four-year terms to review and act on matters related to planning and development.
The commission holds regularly scheduled meetings and public hearings on the first and third Wednesday of each month in the Council Chambers of the City Hall to consider land use matters, such as the general plan, specific plan, rezonings, use permits, and subdivisions. It weighs planning proposals with regards to federal, state, and local regulations and potential environmental effects, as well as, listens to testimony from citizens and other interested parties. Depending on the project, the commission's decision may be referred to the city council as a recommendation for action, or considered a final action unless appealed to the council.
