Hawthorne Wild World Rescues

All shapes and sizes of creatures are in need of rescue.

The baby alligators were smuggled and had been packed in plastic totes with no food or water. The gators were turned over to the Fish and Game Department to be returned to their proper environment.

The Pied-Billed Grebe is a water bird who was found swimming at the Hawthorne Municpal pool. This bird needs a large water surface to be able to get enough lift to take off and fly. The pool was too short for a take off and it was stranded. The Grebe was taken to a wild bird rescue facility for release.

The Meyers parrot had enough of the outside world and was found clinging to a window grate on a home. It was looking for any home to give it shelter. Crows had picked the feathers from around its neck. The tame parrot did not know how to find food in the wild and was very hungry and thirsty when cared for by Animal Control staff. The parrot is awaiting adoption.

The Opossum will eat all types of insects, including cockroaches, crickets, beetles, etc. They catch and eat rats, roof rats, mice, and they consume dead animals of all types. They like over-ripe fruit, berries and grapes. They think snails are a delicacy. Nature's little Sanitation Engineers!
