Golf Tournament

21st Annual

Hawthorne Parks and Recreation Golf Classic

April 5, 2010 appeared to be the first time the Golf Classic was to be postponed. The sky was dark and rained until the sun broke through around 11AM. We were able to have lunch outside and by the time the scramble start began at 12:30PM the sun was blazing but the wind was cool and brisk.  A small field of 63 players enjoyed the rain free day and finished the tournament in record time.  The awards banquet began at 6PM with great food and recognition of the top teams and the bottom team, along with special awards for closest to the pin on three holes, the longest drive and most accurate drive.

Millers Pillars was the 1st place team, the Patrick Diaz Team took 2nd place and the team sponsored by Imperial Projects was third. The Hawthorne Police Officers were the Most Honest Team by garnering last place. Marshal Tande, Mark Evans and Pat Hughes were closest to the pin. Tony O’Rourke had the most accurate drive.   Debbie Quezambra had the longest drive for the woman and Mathew Porco for the men.

Dick Miller, the Tournament Chairman was given a plaque for his 25 years on the Foundation Board of Directors. He promised to continue Chairing the Golf Classic for another 25 years. At this time not all the sponsor money is collected but it appears the Foundation will net around $10,000.
